Poets Of The Mid Tang Dynasty

Poets with very different styles.

The mid-Tang Dynasty was a turning point in Tang poetry. The main literary features were the decline of romanticism and the further development and maturity of realism. The main poets were Zhang Ji (張籍), Bai Juyi (白居易) and Yuan Zhen (元稹) of the socialist school. The New Yuefu Movement (新樂府運動) became the main trend which mainly describe the current state of society.

There were several other poets in the middle Tang Dynasty, who were different in style. The style of Han Yu (韓愈) poetry is vigorous and has been respected by many literati. Strange and affectionate, Li He (李賀) also known as "the ghost of poetry". Wei Yingwu (韋應物) and Liu Zongyuan (柳宗元) were poets of the pastoral school of landscapes. Liu Zongyuan's landscape poems are especially splendid, clean and beautiful, while Wei's poems were clear and high-spirited.
